Y=Yes N=No X=Not VotingWOOL AND MOHAIR SUBSIDY: Voting 155 for and 272 against, the
House on July 11 rejected an amendment to kill the federal
subsidy for sheep and goat ranchers who produce wool and mohair.
Although a 1993 law slated it for elimination in 1997, the
program remains in force, costing the Treasury up to $20 million
annually in direct payments to ranchers. The vote occurred during
debate on HR 2330 (above).

program is simply a waste of taxpayer money."
Charles Stenholm, D-Tex., said the payments offset subsidized
foreign competition, "exactly like we are doing...for
apples...for wheat and corn and soybeans and rice and all of the
other commodities."
A yes vote was to kill the wool and mohair subsidy.
